Together with CEN / CENELEC, NEN has started standardizing blockchain at European level. Specific attention is paid to what is needed to implement global standards for blockchain in Europe.
On 17 February 2020, a kick-off meeting was held in Brussels for the new technical committee to work on European blockchain standardization. The European standards committee 'Blockchain and Distributed Ledger Technologies'follows as much as possible the work program of the global blockchain committee.
The standards committee specifically looks at how standards can be implemented within Europe and what interaction there is with European legislation. Special attention is paid to 'self-sovereign identity' (SSI), the European eIDAS regulation and the protection of personal data (GDPR). A new working group on 'Identity Management' has been started for these topics.
The 'Blockchain' standards committee closely follows the standardization of blockchain at European level. The standards of CEN / CENELEC can ultimately be specified in European legislation. The application of European standards gives access to the European market.
