On 27 and 28 October 2016, the 9th edition of the Service Design Global Conference (SDGC) will take place in the Westergasfabriek in Amsterdam. With more than 600 guests, more than 55 speakers and a network from 42 countries, the two-day conference is the leading annual event for the global service design community.

Service Design
Service design is a design discipline that deals with the design of services. From a customer-oriented vision, service designers work on improving services with the aim of increasing value for both the customer and the service provider. Examples of service design in practice are the coordination of all interaction that a customer has with his/her bank, the optimization of the customer experience of a patient in a hospital or the development of a multimedia tour to support an exhibition. Service design is a relatively young discipline that originated about 20 years ago. With the current exponential growth of complex, often digitally managed services in combination with the recognition of the customer experience as a positive differentiator, service design is growing and evolving at a rapid pace. Service design is increasingly seen as an essential part of business success.

The SDGC is the leading annual international service design conference organized by the Service Design Network. Returning to Amsterdam after eight years, the conference consists of two vibrant days of inspiring lectures and intense break-out sessions under the title 'Business as Unusual'. The impressive and diverse list of over 55 international speakers demonstrates the varied application and breadth of service design.

Speakers include:

  • Zeynep Falay von Flittner, Hellon – Zeynep works at Hellon where she helps organizations transform their culture in a more user-friendly direction. With over 15 years of international experience in service design and design leadership, she has designed digital services for companies such as Nokia, Danske Bank, Turkcell and TeliaSonera.
  • Cees van Dok, TomTom – In the position of Head of Design, Fellow and Board Member at TomTom, Cees van Dok guides the development of new products from concept to market.
  • Katie Koch, Spotify – Katie is a UX designer. She teaches in Stockholm and works at Spotify with a multidisciplinary team on innovation within the payment experience.
  • Erin Muntzert, Google – For the past two years, Erin has been leading research for Google Maps on emerging platforms and developer experiences. She has over 10 years of experience in the design environment.
