To attract more online visitors, it is very important to be easy to find. With the help of link building you create incoming links to your own website, which increases the link popularity with the aim of appearing higher in the rankings of search engines such as Google. The subject, reliability and authority of a website are determined based on the corresponding link profile. Link building is an ongoing process and is not something that can be done in one afternoon. Many things have to be thought of, but how do you apply it in the right way? We provide a number of important do's and don'ts.
1. Pimp your backlink profile
The online popularity is largely determined by the backlinks. Backlinks are links on other relevant websites that lead to your website, these are considered recommendations by Google. Not only the number of backlinks is important, the more the quality of the backlinks is looked at.
There are several ways to acquire backlinks. The most traditional way is to write to webmasters of relevant websites asking whether a backlink can be placed on the website in question to yours. The more personal the application, the better the results will be. Mass mails often indicate automatic spam mails, so that impersonal emails with requests for backlinks are often rejected. There is also a regular response if there is interest in link exchange, the webmaster will then ask if you would like to place a link back. However, this is not advisable because search engines register when two websites link to each other. In this case, little value is assigned to these links.
Sometimes there is the possibility to buy links. Don't fall for this, it sounds better than it actually is. Links will indeed be placed on other websites, but these often have little to do with the subject of your own website. This ultimately has a negative effect on your position in search engines. If you are nevertheless tempted to buy links, check whether the websites on which the links are placed are actually relevant. Also buy only a limited number of links, then the chance of success is greater.
2. Respond to blogs, forums and news items
Variation in the link profile is important. That is why it is wise not only to focus on acquiring backlinks. Posting block responses can provide the correct variation in the link profile. Search for relevant blogs and post a substantive response below. A link can be placed in the response, but you can also enter your details so that the link is automatically placed in the name. Blogging is extremely popular, so there are probably many blogs that you could comment on, Google blog search is a good tool for this. Please note that you respond to the content of the blog, so that the responses do not resemble spam. In this case you have a chance that the webmaster will not post or delete the comment.
Responding to blogs has become a popular way of link building, and to combat search engine spam, a no-follow tag was set up in 2005 to keep referrals to websites valuable. The hyperlinks that are posted by responding to a blog are not included in the index of the search engines, in other words they do not lead to a higher ranking in search engines. No-follow links may seem irrelevant, but the reactions you post will still lead search traffic to your website. So it's not for nothing! In addition, not all blogs have a no follow tag set. To find out, you can search for no-follow tags in the page source.

3. Become a guest blogger!
Not only responding to blog articles is a fun way to create a varied backlink profile, it is even more fun to write blog articles yourself. You can post this on websites like blogger.com or wordpress.com, but it is even better if guest author your blog articles on a relevant website to place. This can be a one-off, but you can also become a regular guest author on some websites. In the article itself a link can be placed to your website or the article can be linked to your Google+ account.
Note that the content must always be unique and self-written. It is important that the article is substantive and original and not just placed on a free website. This takes little effort, so it seems an easy option. Search engines such as Google are unfortunately not so happy with this and in the future there is a good chance that this will be punished. Put effort into it and therefore always write about topics that you know about, that are relevant to your own website and that are placed on a relevant website. Here too, e-mails must be personalized for writing to webmasters. It has already been said that the content must always be unique, so sending the same blog article to 10 different webmasters at the same time is not wise. Wait for each answer before you send the article to other webmasters. It may take time, but it is all the more fun when you see a self-written, in-depth blog article on someone else's website.
Link building is not easy and takes a lot of time if you want to do it well, but ultimately hard work is rewarded. Provide a varied and qualitative backlink profile and also try to find links in other ways, such as blogging. With the right commitment and approach, your website will be placed higher in the search engine rankings.
