Bol.com not only calls himself 'the store of us all'; With over seven million customers, there is now no household in the Netherlands where a well-known blue and white package has never been delivered. With such a large clientele, you would expect that Bol.com is by far the cheapest online provider. Yet for most products this is by no means true and there are (online) players who are cheaper. However, that does not mean that you can also score nice discounts on Bol.com. But then you have to shop smart. In this blog we explain how you do that.
The Dutch consumer who wants a discount in a web shop googles the word 'discount code' in combination with that web shop and expects the treasury to open. That works for fewer and fewer web shops, and Bol.com is no exception. Discount codes hardly swing around anymore, because Bol.com hardly ever spends them anymore. Is nothing possible? Of course! Take care of two things: register your date of birth in your Bol.com account and subscribe to every Bol.com newsletter that is available. This way you will be offered a discount code on your birthday and you will not miss a single code that is distributed per newsletter - because Bol.com still does. Yes, every now and then you get some spam, but if you save a few tens on your new garden set, you are grateful to yourself.
Surprisingly few people use it Save Continuously, while you can still gain a lot from it. It is simple: you take out a kind of no-obligation subscription to periodically receive certain products - detergent, dog food, etc. In return, you will receive a discount. If you combine five or more products, you will receive an additional ten percent extra discount. If you are on holiday once or there is another reason to skip a delivery, that is no problem. And yet there are still people who pay the full pound for a new bag of dog food every month ...
Sometimes you have to be fast. During Day Deals, certain products are offered 24 hours cheaper. They are announced via the newsletters - there you have them again. Tip: create a wish list with items that you would like to buy but still find too expensive. Checking quickly every day to see if they are on offer is a small effort. Additional tip: install the Bol.com app and check it on your phone.
Bulk 10 day
A few times a year (two or three times) there is the Bulk 10-day from Bol.com. That simply means: up to sixty percent off countless products. The following also applies: keep an eye on newsletters, so make sure you have registered for it. And from the Bulk 10 day it's a logical step to ...
... do bulk orders yourself! It is still remarkable that people - even during discount periods - are frugal and only buy what they need immediately. If you can afford it, realize that you can really save a lot of money by making maximum use of offers. Sixty percent off detergent - which is not about the date and what you will need in a year - is an outright invitation for the seasoned bargain hunter to buy twenty-six bottles. Yes, it takes some cupboard space, but if you calculate what you save with this, you won't find that a problem anymore.
We are now really coming to the Bol.com advanced tips. Big chance that you have never heard of the return deals. This is how it works: everyone who orders something online has fourteen days to change their mind. Even if you have already tried the article in that time (with some exceptions). Most web stores calculate that they will receive a certain percentage of their sold items back and write them off. Bol.com puts them on the shelves again, but at a reduced rate. You can buy them in the Return deals section.
Please note: most deals are not exactly what you want. Two or three euros on an item of 130 euros, we are not exactly wagging about that. Also note that the return deals do not include price changes or other discount promotions, so sometimes they are even more expensive than the new product! But it never hurts to check this section before you finalize your order.
More and more external sellers are offering their wares on Bol.com. This has an advantage: as a consumer you have more to choose. And it has another advantage: if the product of your choice is offered by an external seller, you can of course check on the website of that seller if the price there happens to be lower. Sometimes external sellers have offers on their own sites that do not go through Bol.com. You're crazy if you don't check it out. That is smart shopping.
This is also for advanced users. If you ever order small articles on Bol.com, you will recognize that you want to fill your shopping cart to a minimum of twenty euros because the shipping costs will then expire. That, of course, is also the strategy: for less than two tens, Bol.com will not be successful. But instead of unnecessary (expensive) stuff, you can also supplement your basket with e-books (which, ironically, don't even have to be sent physically) to get the twenty euros. They sometimes only cost one or two euros, so you can also apply custom work.
We have to name it. It was already mentioned in the introduction: Bol.com is often not the cheapest online provider. Do not order every article indiscriminately and do market research. With Google Shopping or other comparison sites, that is no higher math.
What you need to know in this context is that Bol.com sometimes uses weird prices. Older items that have been in a warehouse for a longer time are sometimes suddenly offered cheaper than the exact same item that happens to be in a new package. One bottle of hair spray is then twice as cheap as almost exactly the same bottle of hair spray. For similar reasons, you sometimes see that large packages (detergents, dishwasher tablets, that work) are converted more expensive than small packages. Again: use common sense, calculate what exactly you are paying for and do market research briefly.
That is smart shopping and maximum discount.
