The new campaign went on Saturday 9 November Be prepared - Order on time started. With the campaign, the e-commerce industry wants to advise consumers to order gifts in time for the holidays. Every year, the holidays result in an average turnover increase of 28% compared to a normal week. This year the annual growing international shopping day Black Friday (November 29) falls just before Sinterklaas, which is expected to result in a very large sales peak in just a few days. Sinterklaas is central to the campaign, which is happy because the packages are ordered and delivered on time. The consumer can lend a hand to Sint to get all the presents under the chimney on time.
The web shops and transporters have jointly taken the necessary measures to make the holidays a success for everyone. “The e-commerce industry is always looking forward to the holidays and has started preparations earlier than ever. Web shops and carriers take measures such as the deployment of extra manpower. They will inform consumers as well as possible about when they can expect their packages. The consumer can also lend a hand. The sooner orders are placed, the more spread and less delivery pressure in a few days, ”says Wijnand Jongen, director of Thuiswinkel.org, the interests of web retailers.
The peak days in number of orders this year are expected to be on November 29 (Black Friday) and Cyber Monday (December 2). Unlike previous years, these days are very close to Sinterklaas. You can imagine that it will be a challenge to deliver all those millions of packages for package evening. Webshops work hard to pack all the presents, while carriers regularly process and deliver twice as many packages as usual during this period. “We see that many web stores anticipate this early. Since last year they have already started offering their discount promotions. For example, nice discount promotions on Singles Day (November 11) and in the week prior to Black Friday. This not only offers extra benefits for consumers, but also prevents extra logistical pressure, ”says Wijnand Jongen.
Ordered on time, delivered on time
It can happen on some extremely busy days that a small portion of the packages cannot be delivered the same day as recipients are used to. “With the campaign 'Be prepared, order on time', we ask consumers to take this into account and to order in time,” says Wijnand Jongen. What is 'ordered on time' can vary per web store. Web shops inform consumers themselves about this by, for example, displaying the current delivery time for a product on the site.
The possibility to order gifts online is ideal for people who cannot go to the shopping street during the day, who want to choose from a wide range, for people who want to search quietly, or for people who have curious children at home. Consumers can do a number of things:
- Order the gifts well in advance of the day you need them. Don't wait until the last minute if you don't have to.
- Have packages delivered to a service point. The carrier will then not be faced with a closed door, you can pick up the package whenever you want and you prevent it from falling into the hands of the person you want to surprise.
- If you want to have it delivered to your home, choose a time when you are sure that you are home. If delivery people are in front of a closed door, the delivery of packages takes longer.
- Sign up for the newsletter of your favorite online store, so that you know what offers are available and when.
- Many web stores also offer discounts during Singels Day, around 11 November. Also, many products with a discount are available in the week prior to Black Friday. In many cases, waiting until that Friday is no longer necessary.
- Curious when your package arrives? Then keep an eye on the website of the relevant web store and your e-mail or app from the carrier.
